Presenting a raft of interesting and entertaining events the festival encompasses a series of festivals under the theme A World of Festivals. A number of shows will be making their debut in the Middle East during this DSF and one of them is the internationally acclaimed Fringe Festival. As part of the Shopping Malls Festival, Fringe Festival will feature talents from across the world and entertain crowds with theatre, comedy, visual arts, dance, and music.
To be held at different venues around the city from December 20 until February 2 between 5pm and 10pm, the Fringe Festival will be a major entertainment attraction at the Mall of the Emirates, Deira City Centre, Bur Juman, Mercato, Al Ghurair City, Ibn Battuta, and the Al Reef shopping malls in addition to the venues of The Dubai Festival City, Zabeel Park, Night Souq, Madinat Jumeirah and the Global Village.
The festival, known as Fringe, began with the Edinburgh International Festival way back in 1947, and was viewed as a post-war initiative to re-unite Europe through culture. In its 60th year, the Fringe has been constantly changing to accommodate talents from different countries and is today, famous for its celebration of art and people.
Having travelled half-way round the world the fringe festival has finally arrived in Dubai. So popular is the event world-wide that it is held annually in Toronto, Montreal, Edinburgh, Dublin, Melbourne, and Prague. Artists from 12 different countries will perform 20 world-class variety shows that will include Juggling on Drums, Ballet Balloon, Comical Acrobat Show, Football Tricks, Variety juggling, and Themed Comical Show, to name a few. The 12 countries that will exhibit different talents through variety shows include Canada, Ukraine, Sweden, Italy, Macedonia, USA, UK, China, Poland, Russia, and Japan. New as well as established talents will perform and compete to receive public and international recognition and awards.
The Snake Forest at BurJuman will be yet another attraction of the Shopping Malls Festival. To be held daily throughout the DSF from 10am to 10pm the Snake Forest will feature a huge variety of 17 non-poisonous snakes aged between two and 10 years from different parts of the world. Experts present at the venue will give details about the habitat and life of these reptiles. From the exotic varieties of the Far East to the largest and the heaviest pythons and anacondas from the rain forests of South America you can see them all at this indoor snake forest. Visitors can take photographs with the reptiles.
The combined edition of DSF 2006-2007 will run from December 20, 2006 to February 2, 2007. The 45 days of family fun, entertainment and shopping frenzy will offer retrospective glimpses of the 10 previous editions combining the best of the best and promises to be even bigger and better.
