A Director of a Media City based marketing company and resident of Dubai for 15 years, Sayed will depart from Sharjah by ferry to Bandar Abbas, Iran this month, where he will begin an epic 10,000km sponsored journey covering the Islamic Republic, Pakistan and India, enduring rough terrain, high altitudes, sub-zero temperatures and hostile tribes with the support of armed escorts.
'I decided to go on this journey as I feel that the people affected by the turbulent nature of events in recent years, such as on-going conflicts, earthquakes and tsunami, were not receiving the level of support they deserved,' said Sayed.
'The SOLO ride aims to help the situation by drawing attention to these issues, and encouraging people not to treat each other on the basis of their colour, sex, religion or creed, but as fellow human beings.'
SOLO will donate over half of the cash raised from sponsors to charities including the 'President's Earthquake Relief Fund' Pakistan, and the 'Prime Minister's Earthquake Relief Fund' India.
'Without the assistance from our sponsors, the goals of SOLO would be next to impossible to achieve, and the commitment by TNT to ship 125 kilograms of equipment and supplies from California, China and Pakistan to Dubai is essential to the ride's success,' added Sayed.
The shipments will include extreme weather sleeping bags, film equipment, state-of-the-art radios and Global Positioning Systems (GPS).
Rodney Ellis, Commercial and Marketing Manager-Gulf, TNT Express said 'TNT's commitment to make positive contributions to local and regional communities is imperative to us as a global business, and our support for SOLO is the latest demonstration of our dedication to the company's on-going CSR activities'.
Potential sponsors can register on the official SOLO website, www.mehtab.info, which will also provide constant updates of the ride's progress, with film and photograph postings on the site by the support crew, who will document the entire adventure.
