A completely new design from the ground up, the 2007 Elantra is expected to continue the model's reputation as one of Hyundai's most coveted and best-selling C-segment cars in the world. The Elantra has been very successful in the region as a family saloon since it was first introduced.

'We have great expectations for the all new Elantra and we are confident that consumers in the UAE also will make it a winner,' said Isam Abu Nabah, President Hyundai - Juma Al Majid EST. "It combines a modern established image and spectacular design with outstanding functionality and vehicle dynamics."

"The new Elantra is an all-around performer without any weaknesses and is best in its class in virtually every aspect and that is very rare," added Abu Nabah.

Omar Baddar, the Marketing Manager said: "It delivers more interior space than competing cars in its class, and a level of ride and handling refinement that's both agile and comfortable. In addition, the all new Elantra adds in great standard safety features like dual airbags, anti-lock brakes and active front head restraints."

"It's clear that Elantra offers unbeatable value, so buying a relatively small car no longer means making compromises on comfort, room, appearance, driving character, safety or value. The Elantra is an achiever in all of those areas," Baddar added.

Expressive and confident design

Elantra is wider and taller than its predecessor. Increasing the height by 65mm and moving the driver's seating position up 35mm opens the cabin up for more room and flexibility. Nearly 51 mm of added width delivers more front and rear shoulder room as well. This repackaging delivers a remarkably spacious interior - one that is truly a "class above" its competitors for interior room. Elantra is so roomy that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) classifies it as a mid-size car.

The centre console features a two-level storage compartment and a comfortable armrest. An overhead sunglasses holder has built-in map lights, and map pockets are integrated into the front door panels. Seatback storage pockets provide additional room for small items. Storage can also be found in the dash, centre stack and console. A convenient handbag strap holder is sure to surprise and delight owners. Dual front cup holders and a rear armrest with cup holders complete the interior.

Models and powertrain

In the Middle East, Elantra will be available in the existing four-door saloon body style, equipped with a 1.6 litre Gamma engine (121ps), or a 2.0 Beta engine (143 ps) both with manual and automatic transmissions. Optional equipment includes ABS brakes, a central locking system, air conditioning and airbags.

Safety first

The Hyundai Elantra sedan received the highest possible safety rating from the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA). Under the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP), the Elantra four-door sedans earned the maximum five-star scores for driver safety in front crash tests as well as the five-star safety rating for front seat safety in side crash tests.

The new Elantra reflects Hyundai's continuing emphasis on a long list of safety features as optional equipment. This includes disc brakes on all four wheels and anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution, front seatbelt pre-tensioners, front airbags, front-seat side airbags and curtain-type head protection airbags for front- and rear-seat passengers.

Ride and handling

Elantra's design team worked to solve the classic design tradeoffs between interior roominess, agility and driving comfort. On one hand, interior space and cargo room are critically important to a sedan in its class; on the other hand, secure, responsive handling and good road isolation are also priorities. An advanced, motor-driven, engine-speed-sensing rack-and-pinion power steering ensures the new Elantra has a more agile driving feeling than the outgoing model, and key competitors.

The Hyundai Elantra's handling is outststanding on the back roads. The suspension delivers lots of comfort with plenty of wheel travel, yet the cornering limits are surprisingly high. The gas-charged suspension dampers help control body motion, and there's not too much roll in the corners. The Elantra's wide 185/65 R15 tires help the car track through the corners.

Package Efficiency

The Elantra has taken great strides with each new iteration, and the third-generation 2007 model keeps up that momentum with much-improved levels of isolation, available space, and style. With a 40mm longer wheelbase and a roofline designed to provide better headroom.

In keeping with its more sophisticated road manners, the 2007 Hyundai Elantra has a cabin with a surprising combination of good design and good materials. Part of the secret of the Elantra's new spaciousness is a wider and taller body. The Elantra's reconfigured interior also offers a surprisingly spacious rear seat, as the bench is high enough to let you find a comfortable position for your legs.

Controlled consumption

When you look at fuel economy, the Hyundai Elantra is even more impressive. The Korean engineers tinkered with lots of details, including engine friction, transmission efficiency and tire rolling resistance, and all these little things added up to some worthwhile fuel savings.

Under the bonnet, the advanced 2.0-litre in-line four-cylinder, 16-valve engine employs an aluminum cylinder head that features dual overhead camshafts (DOHC) and Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT). This combination helps give the engine a very broad power spread, coupled with high fuel efficiency and low emissions.
