British University in Dubai enhances educational access for masters students in Abu Dhabi

  • PRESS RELEASE

The British University in Dubai (BUiD), the Middle East's first research-based University, is continuing its policy of extending educational opportunities across the region by enabling students on its popular Project Management Masters degree to take a proportion of their modules in Abu Dhabi.

Developed to reduce the travel burden on students who live in Abu Dhabi - many of whom are combining their studies with a part-time job - the new innovation is part of BUiD's wider policy of ensuring educational access to all students in the UAE.

Students will be able to pursue master's degrees - a key qualification which enables the continued growth and development of the region - with a mix of modules in both Emirates.

"Our aim is make higher education as accessible as possible for qualified students within the UAE by providing teaching and learning resources in the most suitable format and locations," said David Lock, Registrar and Acting Chief Executive of BUiD.

"We firmly believe accessibility is a vital component of ensuring students receive the best education available and achieve their full potential," he added.

Typical Masters Modules consist of three classes a week for three weeks, with students completing assignments at the end of module.

Through this new initiative, students will be able to opt for classes for two weeks in Abu Dhabi and one week in Dubai for each module.

The programme consists of eight modules which are taught sequentially, followed by a dissertation. Full time students take four modules each semester and part time students take two modules each semester.

The master's degree in Project Management provides students with the practical skills and theoretical background to initiate and implement change and make valuable contributions to sectors ranging from oil and gas, IT, banking and finance, and construction.

Because of the strong demand for the course and its relevance for many professionals within Abu Dhabi, BUiD made the decision, with the approval of the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to provide this new option with this programme first, and may consider extending it to other disciplines depending upon the response from students.

BUiD's students come from a wide range of backgrounds with many already active in the workforce and looking for opportunities to enhance their career by gaining further qualifications. Others progress directly from undergraduate programmes in universities and colleges around the region.
