New and retrofitted Carrier air conditioners launched in the Middle East
- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, December 21 - 2006 at 13:11
- PRESS RELEASE
Carrier Corp., a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), has launched air conditioners fitted with high-power UVC Emitters™ in the Middle East market, thus significantly raising the standards of indoor air quality in the region.
Describing the new generation of central air conditioners, Aftab Khan, Managing Director, Building Systems & Services, said, "Carrier has always been at the forefront of innovation. The use of ultraviolet (UV) technology to raise the standards of indoor air quality marks yet another milestone for Carrier."
Carrier has started installing the UVC lights in retrofit programs for existing air conditioning units. These lights are normally fitted on the models such as 39 series air handling units or commonly known in the industry as AHUs; 40 RM/RMS FCU; 42 series FCU; and 50 series packaged units.
The high-power UVC Emitters™ supply enough germicidal energy to penetrate viruses, bacteria and mould altering their DNA. As a result, UVC eliminates both surface organisms that grow inside HVAC systems and microbes that normally circulate through the air and back to the building occupants.
In the UAE, UTS Carrier's UVC air conditioners have already found favour with several customers in the healthcare sector. These include Prestige Clinic, Trust Medical Centre, Taj Dental Clinic and Canadian Chiropractic & Holistic Clinic.
In Saudi Arabia, air conditioners fitted with UVC Emitters™ have been installed in several projects including hospitals and villas.
The UVC Emitters™, manufactured by Steril-Aire Inc. have been tested and used in applications for homes, hospitals, offices, shopping malls, factories and food processing in the USA for 11 years. Recent U.S. Environmental Protection Agency tests confirmed that the Steril-Aire Emitters are, on average, six times more effective than any other UVC lamp tested.
The U.S. General Services Administration has included the need for UVC Emitters™ in all federal building AC coils, Peter Beale, Director, International Marketing and Sales, Steril-Aire, said.
