Held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mayed Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Dubai Balloon Festival is the largest spectacle of its kind in the Middle East, and a major highlight of the Dubai Shopping Festival.

'The sheer delight of one of the ancient marvels of science, the hot air balloon, is something to be seen, felt and experienced,' said Mr. Hakim Al Bannay, President of the Dubai Balloon Festival. 'The night glow of balloons is also an important family attraction not to be missed, where a line up of balloons, tethered to the ground, illuminate the skies.'

With two mass flights each day from the Global Village and several on-the-ground activities, the balloon festival is a must-see event for residents and tourists in Dubai. Entry to the balloon festival is free.

Mr. Al Bannay added, 'Visitors have started arriving in large numbers at the Global Village this morning to witness the magnificent spectacle and enjoy the on-the-ground entertainment activities. This is a testament to the success gained by the festival in just the first two days.'

As part of the Dubai Balloon Festival, a Children's Carnival has also commenced at the Global Village, featuring a variety of workshops and competitions on art, music, painting and other areas. Children of various ages visited the venue to capture the myriad colours of the Dubai Balloon Festival on paper as part of a painting competition.
