This has helped Samsung to continue the lead it already gained since Q2 in the Flat Panel TV category for both unit share and revenue. As a result, Samsung has leaped forward to truly become the global top brand.

Based on Q3 results in the global TV market, Samsung placed first in both unit share and total revenue share in the entire TV market, as well as leading the fast-growing, high-demand LCD TV market, thus maintaining the top position in production and revenue in Flat Panel TV category, a combined figure of LCD and PDP televisions. Samsung has climbed the charts to rise as a true global leader in TV brands.

Samsung is also the leading brand of LCD TVs in the Middle East region with No.1 market share in major markets including UAE & Iran. Samsung has ranked first place in the UAE from January to October based on research figures (source: GFK) with a market share of 27.6% and first place in Iran from January to October with a market share of 48.9%.

DisplaySearch, the worldwide authority in display market research, announced in its Q3'06 Global TV Market Report that Samsung led the total rankings in both unit shares and revenue, by recording sales of 5.1 million units (5.094 million), and revenues of $3,807,563,000.

In Q3, LG and TTE placed 2nd and 3rd respectively in unit shares following the lead of Samsung Electronics, while Sony placed 2nd and Panasonic 3rd in revenues in the group also led by Samsung.

Samsung Electronics had first gained a leading position in unit share and total revenue since the third quarter of last year, and has been steadily widening the gap with competitors. By Q3 of 2006, Samsung has finally occupied the top position in unit volume and sales earnings within the entire global TV market.

By doing so, for the first time in 34 years since the company began producing televisions, (first production of television sets in 1972) Samsung is taking great strides in moving toward being crowned 'the market revenue leader of the year.'

When looking closer into the historic results achieved by Samsung Electronics, the top-ranking performance of the LCD sector in both unit share (13.2%) and revenue (15.6%) is being highlighted as the biggest accomplishment.

Samsung credits the honor of leading the LCD TV market to a steady increase in sales within the entire line-up of Samsung LCD TVs, including the 'Bordeaux LCD TV' series which is close to becoming a 'two-million seller' and also the 'Mosel LCD TV' series, which is fast rising as the key premium model.

In addition, the PDP sector of Samsung that has maintained 3rd place in unit share and revenue in Q1 and Q2, has performed admirably, climbing to 2nd place (15.4%) by taking advantage of recent sale increases of luxury PDP TVs.

Particularly the splendid sales record of Samsung's PDP TVs during the 43rd week of the year (last week of October), as the best selling brand (32% unit share, 30% revenue share - based on NPD figures) is making future prospects brighter.

Coupled with the strong performance of the company's PDP and LDC sectors, Samsung has been able to maintain the leading position in the Flat Panel TV category (FPTV) in both unit sales and revenue since Q2, and helped strengthen its image as a global leader of premium digital TVs.

Within this category, Philips (11.7%) and Sharp (10.4%) trailed the lead of Samsung (13.5%) in unit share, and Panasonic (12.3%) and Sony (10.9%) followed behind Samsung (15.5%) in total revenue.

In the LCD-TV category, while Sharp and Philips placed 2nd and 3rd, respectively, after Samsung Electronics in unit share rankings, Sony and Sharp trailed Samsung in revenue.

Within the PDP-TV sector, Panasonic led the group in unit share, while LG was in 2nd place, and Samsung was ranked next. In addition, Panasonic led the group in revenues, followed by Samsung in 2nd place and LG ranking 3rd. For MD PJ TVs, companies ranked in the order of Sony, Samsung Electronics, and Mitsubishi for both unit share and revenue.

Within the conventional CRT TV sector, TTE of China placed first, followed by LG Electronics. Samsung Electronics, which terminated the production of curved CRT TVs by switching entirely to 'Flat Screen' CRT TVs and 'Slim' CRT TVs, was ranked third.

"Samsung Electronics has captured the market within leading countries with premium LCD and PDP products, and achieved the accolade of taking the global lead in total unit sales and revenue from the third quarter of this year," said Chi Won Suh, President and CEO Samsung Electronics Middle East and Africa headquarters. "We intend to carry on the reputation of being the world's truly most outstanding TV brand by continuing to release global hit products that will move the hearts and minds of worldwide consumers."
