SBM showcases IBM's DB2 and SAP Alliance
- Saudi Arabia: Wednesday, December 27 - 2006 at 08:07
- PRESS RELEASE
Saudi Business Machines Ltd. (SBM), the General Marketing and Services Representative of IBM World Trade Corporation, recently held a road show in collaboration with IBM and SAP to unveil the benefits of their partnership with regards to the DB2, a universal database management system that delivers a flexible and cost-effective database platform to build robust on demand business applications.
With the massive growth in the sizes of databases, many customers today who have one or two tera-bytes of data, are forecasted to have more than double that amount in a couple of years. Russell Meyer, IBM's Data Server Sales Manager, said "By introducing a feature called DB2 Compression we can observe compression of SAP data of up to 50% within the SAP environment. Furthermore based on our estimations and working with customers that host and run applications, it costs about $70,000 per year to maintain one tera-bye of data in its complete environment, security and high-availability. So, if we can reduce the amount of data that has to be maintained and managed, we are looking at massive total cost of ownership benefits."
The IBM and SAP global partnership, handled in Saudi Arabia through SBM and SAP Arabia, highlights IBM's dedication to SAP technology. IBM and SAP have been partners for over 30 years with over 10,000 joint customers worldwide; a partnership continuously being enlarged and enriched.
