MenaTelecom wins a National Fixed Wireless Services (NFWS) License in the Kingdom of Bahrain

Mr. Abdulhakeem Al Khayyat, Chairman of MenaTelecom and General Manager of Kuwait Finance House (Bahrain) announced that MenaTelecom, an investment subsidiary of Kuwait Finance House (Bahrain), has won one of the two National Fixed Wireless Services (NFWS) Licenses, after the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) opened the financial bids yesterday and announced the final decision following the panel's recommendation.
On this occasion Mr. Abdulhakeem Al Khayyat said, "We are very excited about this opportunity for MenaTelecom. Bahrain has a long tradition of being the first in the region to introduce innovative telecommunications technology and it is our privilege that MenaTelecom has been chosen to continue with this tradition for the benefit of our customers."
Mr. Al Khayyat continued, "Our vision is to have our customers connected to the world easily, reliably and affordably, using the most innovative technology available today. We are very pleased with the progress and achievement that Mena Telecom has made throughout 2006.
The government policy of opening the telecom market in the kingdom is a positive move to the economy, and it is encouraging the business sector while benefiting the end users. We would like to congratulate the kingdom for their strategy of liberalization of the telecom market, and we are here to contribute to our economy".
Representing Kuwait Finance House (Bahrain), Mr. Abdul Razak Jawahery, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Mena Telecom said, "We are delighted to have won one of the two licenses being offered by TRA, and Mena Telecom is fully committed to introducing the latest innovative technology as well as continuing to provide our customers with quality, reliability and value for money. An NFWS license will facilitate the implementation of WiMax across the Kingdom. WiMax is the latest development in wireless networking technology and will deliver high-speed Internet access, as well as telephony and other telecommunication services across the nation. It will provide a real alternative to landline technology and it will provide nomadic services for customers. No longer will our customers be constrained by wires. They can move their telecom and IT devices around the home or take them to the office; either way their service will always be there and ready to use, always at affordable prices.
