IATA queries Gulf growth

  • Saudi Arabia: Saturday, December 30 - 2006 at 08:06

The International Air Transport Association has said Gulf countries are building too much airport infrastructure and airlines could be paying for facilities they don't need, reported Gulf News. IATA estimates $38bn is being spent in the UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia to boost regional capacity to 320m passengers by 2012. But Giovanni Bisignani, IATA's DG and CEO, said the investments 'don't add up' as passenger numbers may only reach 160m.
