Huawei's UMTS 900 MHz solutions reuses the existing GSM 900 MHz's frequencies and infrastructures including base station cabinets, antenna lines and power feeders, causing a reduction in capital expenditure and enabling the provision of wireless broadband services. Huawei's successful trial on UMTS900 MHz indicates that Huawei is making further breakthroughs in the UMTS extended bands field. The company supports the most extended HSDPA bands in the industry and Huawei's new generation Node B supports UMTS 850 MHz, 900 MHz as well as AWS frequencies of 1700 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz and 2100 MHz.

The telecom vendor will continue to conduct multiple UMTS 900 MHz field trials in Australia and Europe.

"We are pleased to complete the Interoperability Testing (IOT) successfully on UMTS 900 MHz which will reduce deployment time and investment costs for operators," commented Wang Jiading, vice president, Huawei Technologies Middle East and North Africa Operations. "Huawei's successful trial of HSDPA 3.6 Mbps video services on UMTS 900 MHz spectrum shows our market leadership in the mobile broadband field. Huawei is committed to developing innovative solutions that create maximum value for our customers."

To date Huawei has secured 35 commercial Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) contracts and established strategic partnerships with 28 of the world's top 50 operators including Etisalat, Vodafone, Telefónica, France Telecom, Deutsche Telekom, KPN, China Mobile and China Unicom. Through focusing on customers' challenges, promoting the quality of networks and reducing the construction and maintenance costs with innovative solutions, Huawei has been recognised and accepted by mobile operators all over the world.
