Dubai World Chairman receives Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia

The Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato' Sri Mohammed Najib Bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak, met Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman of Dubai World, on Saturday to discuss opportunities for expanding trade ties between the two sides.
Mr. Bin Sulayem briefed the visiting dignitaries on the developmental projects currently being undertaken by Dubai World companies, particularly the three Palm Islands and the The World projects, and praised UAE-Malaysian relations:
"Dubai and Malaysia share a very warm relationship in terms of trade ties and we welcome the deputy prime minister and his team here. The Malaysian Government has always pursued an encouraging trade policy towards the UAE - and Dubai in particular. There is an enormous potential for furthering these trade links and we are looking forward to chalking out plans in that direction."
Mr Bin Sulayem gave a brief insight into the infrastructure developments that is changing Dubai's landscape, including projects undertaken by Dubai World companies such as Limitless and Isthithmar.
Dato' Abdul Razak extended an invitation to Mr Bin Sulayem to visit Malaysia and said:
"Malaysia has always cherished its friendly relations with the United Arab Emirates. It is our desire to raise the ties to higher levels, especially in commerce and trade."
Jafza International, Dubai World's International Free Zone operator, has a fifteen-year contract to develop and manage the Port Klang Free Zone, which will combine with Port Klang to become Malaysia's primary maritime and logistics hub.
The Port Klang free zone is modelled after Jebel Ali Free Zone in Dubai, home to over 5,500 companies from over 120 countries.
Malaysia exports a number of products including food stuffs, textiles, electronics and other products to the UAE. Dubai's non-oil foreign trade with Malaysia was AED3.8 billion for the year 2004, Dubai's re-exports to Malaysia were AED37.4 million, and Dubai's exports to Malaysia were AED121.4 million, while Dubai's imports from Malaysia were 3.7 AED million for the same year.
