Accidents are undesirable events that occur on the Egyptian roads more frequently than we
can imagine. The rate of accidents on the road and railway's are getting higher everyday. About 6,000 people die and 35,000 are injured in road accidents each year in Egypt. The Egyptian Ministry of Transport says that road accidents are the second-highest cause of death in the country and experts estimate they cause annual losses of up to US $350 million, which amounts to 3% of the country's GDP. These accidents can
be reduced and hopefully avoidable in the future.

As a result IEP initiated a series of conference for the road safety which are fully supported by the government. The conference is accompanied by an exhibition "Traffic Egypt 2007" which will showcase the latest road safety and traffic management technology, and will also involve the public in hands-on driver training displays, simulations and interactive road safety training.

Eng. Fouad Khalil, Chairman of the Arab Roads Association stressed on the educational side of the driving behaviors. He said that an education program must be set for teaching and training on traffic law, rules & manners for pedestrians and drivers, in the different phases of education starting from kinder garden to colleges. Besides school education, we must continue developing the traffic sense through organizing continuous integrated sustained campaigns in the media. Therefore, the coming generations will be more
aware and involved in today's road's issue.
The conference and exhibition are aiming to highlight all activities done for road safety through the Government, NGO's and the private sector in Egypt, who are concerned in making our roads safe for all users.

The conference will also bring along international and local experts from various fields:
Law Enforcers, Road Specialists, Infrastructure Engineers, Senior Governmental
Representatives and many more under one roof to discuss the obstacles of the Egyptian
roads.
