US sub hits tanker in Gulf

An American nuclear submarine and Japanese oil tanker collided on Monday in the Gulf near the Strait of Hormuz, according to news agencies. The USS Newport News hit the stern of the tanker, operated by Japanese shipping company Kawasaki Kisen, but there were no injuries or serious damage, according to the US Navy and Japanese government. The Japanese tanker was able to continue to a nearby port in the UAE.
