The festival is being organized for the first time by Dubai Women's College (DWC) Communication Technology Department from 14-16 January at the Dubai Knowledge Village Auditorium.

Held under the theme 'The Young Emirati Cinema', the Short Film Festival will include screenings of short films produced and directed by students of Dubai Women's College and Dubai Men's College. It will also showcase short films by emerging Emirati film makers. Post-screening discussions will focus on developing the talent of aspiring film students and highlighting the skills that need to be enhanced for their future career growth in the industry.

Dubai Studio City said its sponsorship of the Short Film Festival is part of its strategy to encourage UAE film makers, and offer them an opportunity to present their work to a niche audience. Its support of the event also reflects its commitment to the development of an indigenous cinema industry in the country.

Dr. Amina Al Rustamani, Executive Director Media, TECOM Investments, said: "It is highly impressive to see such a group of enthusiastic students planning, organizing and managing a film festival. I see this as strong evidence of their commitment to pursue a career in film making.

"Dubai Studio City is happy to be associated with this event that supports Dubai's vision for the future of the industry in this part of the world."

Dubai Studio City is laying the foundations of a world-class infrastructure that will help create a talented pool of skilled film makers. The new cluster also offers an unprecedented opportunity to nurture the local film industry, while catering to the production requirements of regional and international film companies.

"Partnering with key national events, like the Dubai International Film Festival, Dubai Studio City is leaving no stone unturned in its effort to support emerging film makers with the resources they need to grow and establish themselves," said Dr. Al Rustamani.

Key Emirati filmmakers will share their experiences with the students and other film makers from the region, specially invited for the Short Film Festival. The SFF will include screening of 40 films, each followed by a panel discussion.
