The conference - which is being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of Kuwait - has attracted speakers from Europe, Asia, Africa and the Gulf region. Prominent members of Kuwait's political and business communities will also be speaking at the conference. The event opens to the public tomorrow (Monday, 15th January) following a key-note speech by the Amir.
Announcing KIPCO's sponsorship of the conference, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr Faisal Al Ayyar said:
'We are delighted to be the Platinum sponsor of this very prestigious conference. The work being done worldwide to fight the evil of corruption is extremely important, because corruption undermines business confidence and restricts economic growth. We feel so strongly about this, that three years ago we took the lead and adopted transparency as a key element of our business philosophy.
For each of the last three years, we have held an annual Shafafiyah ('transparency') conference of our own to explain our business performance and strategy to our shareholders, investors and partners. I believe these events have played a major part in our success, because they provide a regular opportunity for our stakeholders to ask our management teams direct questions about their businesses and the results they have achieved. I would like to see more Kuwaiti companies follow our lead and adopt this kind of commitment and discipline.'
The Kuwait Transparency Conference is open to the public on Monday 15th January and Tuesday 16th January, 2007. The event is being held at the Hotel Sheraton, Kuwait and is being organized by the Kuwait Transparency Society in coordination with Transparency International. Both groups are non-governmental organizations that specialize in anti-corruption measures.
