Yemeni journos under threat

Intimidation against journalists and newspapers in Yemen is on the rise, according to a report cited by Gulf News. There were 67 reported violations against media in 2006, compared to 53 in 2005, including kidnappings, torture, threats and dubious defamation actions, according to figures released by NGO Women Journalists Without Chains. Additionally, the government turned down 60 licence applications for new magazines and newspapers last year.
