  • United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, January 16 - 2007 at 11:36
  • PRESS RELEASE

Al Majd Satellite TV, the region's leading family-friendly Arabic entertainment and news channel, announced today that it has surpassed the 200,000 subscriber mark, with households primarily in Saudi Arabia but also in other Gulf states.

The three-year-old channel based at Dubai Media City provides a wide range of programming, including sitcoms, quiz shows, talk programs, news and documentaries, all in a family-friendly format that precludes the use of music or women in programs or advertising. In all, religious shows make up a quarter of the station's programming.

Sheikh Fahd Al Shimemry, President of Al Majd Satellite TV, said the channel's success reflects the strong demand in Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East
"For a media outlet that makes use of the latest technologies to provide viewers with a broad range of programs, but in a way that reflects the culture, traditions and values of the region. We are proud that Al Majd is recognised by parents as a TV channel that they can trust to provide a clean media environment in which to raise their children."

Dr Yousef Al Shimemry, Al Majd Satellite TV Vice President, said that the channel's superior programming also makes it stand out. "While we are committed to serving society by offering conservative shows, we also set very high standards for production and content in order to deliver world-class TV. This is our commitment and responsibility - clean programs that are enjoyable and informative to watch."

The quality of the programming and its conservative format has encouraged Saudi Arabian Airlines to offer it as the only TV channel in its in-flight entertainment bouquet.

The Al Majd website allows web surfers to download and view any of its on-air programming and also provides news, program information and scheduling, and announcement of special events. Al Majd also is the only company to use Saudi Telecom's Al Jawal 3G network to deliver a live feed of the televised broadcast to mobile devices.

A number of leading global marketers advertise on Al Majd, including Arla Foods, General Motors, Kraft, P&G, Reckitt Benckiser and Unilever.

Ahmed Saadeh, Regional Manager at Qotoof Eilamiah, the media house representing Al Majd, praised the channel for its "tremendous flexibility in making it possible for international ads of global brands to air. They are innovative in working with multinational marketers to build their brands, which uniquely benefit being seen on a channel so highly regarded by its viewers."

Ali Hasbini, Dubai Branch Manager, Qotoof Eilamiah Dubai office, said, "In partnership with Al Majd and its advertisers, Qotoof Eilamiah demonstrates its enduring commitment to servings it clients with the best possible service."

The station, which is one in a bouquet of channels from Al Majd Satellite Broadcasting Ltd, has invested heavily in production studios around the region to further enhance its news and entertainment offerings, with facilities now operating in Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, as well as Dubai.
