Electronic payment and booking gains popularity among Gulf Air customers

Gulf Air, Oman's national carrier, expects its latest method of payment to become favoured by most of its customers before the end of 2007.

The airline is now offering credit card bookings over the telephone, providing passengers with the best rates on flights, with the ultimate convenience of not having to leave the comfort of their work stations.

"In 2006 Gulf Air took a staggering total of nearly three million Omani Riyals in credit card bookings. The entire airline industry is veering towards e-ticketing rather than conventional paper tickets and Gulf Air is no exception," says Gulf Air Manager Worldwide Contact Centre (WWCC) Ruth Birkin.

"To marry the two services by offering credit card payments over the phone and subsequent e-ticketing was a natural step for us and one which fits in nicely with our customer-centric philosophy."

Customers can use Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners or any other internationally recognised credit facility, to purchase their flights to and from the Sultanate. Immediately after payment has been accepted, an e-ticket will be emailed to the customer, further enhancing the convenience of this useful service.

Gulf Air expects its corporate customers to benefit the most from this new offering, with the ease and speediness of e-ticketing being of great use for last minute business travel.

"We have listened to the market and given our customers what they want in the form of a simple way of booking and paying for flights without have to even leave their chair," adds Birkin.

"In our new call centre in Muscat we employ local, bi-lingual staff who are highly trained to take you through the ticket purchasing process as quickly and efficiently as possible - making your whole experience a pleasurable one."

A total of 200 people handle the telephones at Gulf Air's state of the art centre in Knowledge Oasis Muscat. The WWCC also boasts an impressive 98.5% Omanisation rate, far exceeding the government's average quota for an international company.
