NEC honors key players in the conduct of FNC elections

The National Election Committee (NEC) held a special ceremony to honour the members of the committee, subcommittees, institutes, companies and individuals who contributed to the success of the Federal National Council (FNC) elections held on December 16, 18 and 20, last year.

The ceremony held in Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, was attended by Dr. Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for FNC Affairs, Mohammed bin Nakhira Al Dhaheri, Minister of Justice; Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of of Culture and Youth and Social Development, Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Quttami, Minister of Health; Ahmed Mohammed Al Humairi, Secretary-General of the Presidential Affairs Ministry; Tariq Hilal Lootah, Secretary-General of FNC Affairs Ministry, member of the NEC and head of the Election Management Committee (EMC); Major General Saif Al-Shaafar, Undersecretary at the Interior Ministry, Khalfan Al Roumi, Faraj bin Hamoudah, Dr. Saeed Al Ghafli, Assistant Secretary-General of the FNC Affairs Ministry and Emirates Subcommittees Co-ordinator, and a number of representatives from the public, private as well as the media who contributed with their support to the FNC elections.

Dr. Gargash said: "The elections were a challenging project and our aim was to execute each step an organized and positive manner. We have now proven that the institutes in the UAE are capable of accomplishing this task efficiently and high level of commitment and responsibility. The joint efforts of the NEC and the units and subcommittees in organizing and planning these elections contributed immensely to the smooth operation and success of the election process."

Dr. Gargash highlighted the role of those who contributed to the conduct of the elections including the Ministry of Culture and Youth and Social Development, Ministry of Education, Executive Office, General Authority for Information, Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research, Civil Service Bureau, Emirates Identity Authority, Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dubai e-Government, Etisalat, Emirates Post, Higher Colleges of Technology, Dubai World Trade Centre, Central Information Office in Bahrain.

"Upon accomplishing the first step of the initiative by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to activate and empower the FNC as an effective body, we are looking forward to the next step. We believe that the revitalized FNC will reflect the needs and aspirations of the UAE community and contribute to the development and well being of our country," added Dr. Gargash.

The National Elections Committee was established by Presidential decree in December 2005 and was assigned to supervise the elections.
