The award was presented by His Excellency Engineer Hussein Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality, at a ceremony held at Zabeel Hall, Dubai Municipality Club in Dubai.
The Workplace Safety Award recognizes companies that perform above par in the areas of occupational accident prevention, natural resources preservation and fire and emergency response. Dubai Municipality took several different parameters into consideration while assessing the entries for the Award, including accident rate, safety and health policies, measures for accident prevention, the ratio of accidents to employees and new initiatives for the promotion of safety within the community.
'Jotun has built up its consistent and excellent safety record with rigorous implementation of a stringent health, safety and environmental policy. Recognition of our high standards from a renowned authority like Dubai Municipality is a prestigious honor as it catapults us to the international stage on par with the best companies worldwide.
'Jotun's implementation of high-quality safety, health and environmental protection programmes also demonstrates commitment to its employees. The company's human capital is an important generator of competitive advantage and Jotun is committed to ensuring the well-being of all its employees,' said Peter Holyoak, Quality Assurance Technical Advisor, Jotun Middle East.
Jotun has evolved its own Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Standard, laying down a set of regulations, procedures and practices that are implemented in all companies either owned or managed by it, and in the execution of new projects or upgrading of existing production facilities in the absence of national regulations and legislations.
The Workplace Safety Award 2006 recognizes the effectiveness of the stringent Jotun HSE Standard, which is designed to ensure responsible operations and protect life, health and property, prevent environmental pollution and avoid unwanted consequences of Jotun's various industrial activities.
