Oman signs off $169m IWP

Oman has signed a $169m independent water project contract with Al Sharqiyah Desalination Company, a consortium led by France's Veolia Water, for the Sur desalination plant, the Oman Daily Observer reported. Under the terms of the agreement, the company will build, own and operate a 17.6m gallons-per-day plant in Sur, as well as own and operate an existing plant there. Al Sharqiyah will finance the project. The new plant is due to open in January 2009.
