Literacy rates are rising in remote rural areas of the GCC and Yemen, according to educators in the Literate Village project, Gulf News reports. People living in small villages are being taught technical and practical skills as well as how to read and write. The Arab Bureau of Education for Gulf States is also focusing on women's literacy and empowerment.
