Emirates Arthritis Foundation hosts free educational seminar for patients in the UAE

The seminar, which will be held on February first at the Dusit Dubai, is sponsored by Abbott Pharmaceuticals and will include talks by Dr. Gabriele Brieden and Dr. Muhammad Asim Khan.

The Emirates Arthritis Foundation, launched in April 2006 by the Dubai Bone and Joint Center, under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE, Ruler of Dubai, today announced that it will be hosting an open seminar for patients in the first week of February, with distinguished International Speakers who themselves suffer from the disease.

Dr. Gabriele Brieden will be giving a talk on: 'What it means to live with arthritis and how to make the best of it'. Dr. Brieden developed the first symptoms of Juvenile Arthritis at the age of eight but was misdiagnosed for many years before receiving correct treatment. An ardent advocate for RA education, she is the author of two books, 'Rheumatism-Learn to Live with the Disease' and 'New Therapy - Options', which examines treatment with biologics.

Also visiting will be Dr. Assim Khan, MD, MACP, FRCP, Professor of Medicine - Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland OH. Dr. Khan has suffered from Ankylosing Spondylitis, a debilitating form of arthritis, for more than forty-five years. A distinguished rheumatologist and researcher with more than two hundred and twenty scientific articles, Dr. Khan will be giving a lecture entitled, 'How Early Diagnosis and Treatment Can help you Beat Arthritis'.

'Our mission at the Emirates Arthritis Foundation is to provide patients with the tools and information necessary to help them lead better lives,' said Kathryn Ronalds, occupational therapist and patient advocacy coordinator from the Emirates Arthritis Foundation. 'Dr. Brieden and Dr. Khan both know what it means to suffer from arthritis and are keen to help others suffering from the disease from both a medical as well as personal perspective.'

The seminar is open to all patients suffering from arthritis.
