The relief package is over and above legal insurance claims and any compensation that will be paid by the contractors of the Fortune Tower.
An official spokesperson of the Fortune Investment Group said the ex-gratia relief package has been announced as part of delivering their social commitment to help those affected by the mishap.
Mr. Syed Muhammad Ali, Chief Executive Officer, Fortune Group, said: 'We do know that monetary relief is not a replacement for lost human lives, but we hope that our support will help reduce some of the pain and suffering of the deceased's or injured's family'.
'The Board has unanimously decided to come out with an ex-gratia relief package on social and humanitarian grounds. We will also coordinate trauma counseling with relevant bodies for those affected,' he said.
The relief package is as follows:
• For those who have died at the mishap, Fortune Investment Group will pay 12 years' salary to their families
• For those who are affected by permanent disability, the relief package will amount to 10 years' salary
• For those suffering from a major injury, the relief will be to the tune of one years' salary. If the duration of recovery period of the affected extends beyond one year, Fortune Investment Group will extend this support unless it is considered to be a permanent disability to which it will compensate as stated above.
• For those who suffered with minor injuries, the relief will amount to three months' salary.
Mr. Ali said once the tender for construction is awarded; the project development is within the responsibility of the contractor and other relevant parties. 'But as developers of the project, our decision on relief initiatives are strongly driven by a true sense of empathy with those who suffered' he added.
Commenting on the compensation from contractors, Mr. Ali said: 'We will also ensure that all compensation due to those who suffered from this unfortunate incident are duly compensated by the relevant contractors.'
