The agreement includes the exchange of international communications traffic as well as access to du and Omantel's respective networks at an optimal level of quality.
Osman Sultan, Chief Executive Officer of du, said:
'Our partnership with Omantel is an important element in du's plan to extend its presence in the region, an objective that figures prominently in our commitment to be a national and regional telecom player.'
The exchange of traffic between du and Omantel will happen via the FALCON fibre optic submarine cable system. FALCON is a new high-capacity resilient loop cable system that has been installed to provide multiple connections throughout the Gulf region as well as stretching from Egypt to India.
Mohammed Bin Ali Al Wahaibi, Chief Executive Officer of Omantel, said: 'This partnership marks an important milestone that will impact the quality of telecommunication services shared between Oman and the UAE.
'As the UAE's new telecom operator, du has already set benchmarks in the telecom sector. We are happy to be associated with such a dynamic organisation in order to offer superior quality telecom services to our customers.'
Omantel is the largest communications service provider in the Sultanate of Oman. The importance and vibrancy of traditional values as well as the power of tomorrow's technology, both find a place of combined importance in Omantel's corporate vision.
