RTA awarded the first phase of Sheikh Zayed parallel roads & Al Nahda - Beirut intersection

The Roads and Transport Authority's (RTA) Board of Directors headed by H.E Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director has awarded the project.
Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister, Ruler of Dubai, for speeding the implementation of Parallel Roads to Sheikh Zayed road which extends in its first stage from Jebel Ali racecourse up to Muscat street with at a length of 13 kilo meters, and also to speed the implementation of Al Nahda Street intersection with Beirut Street to be coincide with the implementation of the fourth pass by at Dubai Creek.
H.E Eng. Mattar al Tayer said that the first-phase project of Sheikh Zayed parallel roads which has been awarded at a total cost of AED 600 million -to China State Company which has submitted the best offer among the four companies applied for the tender-, is the first stage of a comprehensive project to improve and develop the parallel roads which starts from Sheikh Rashid Street and ends at the boarders of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The project extends from Jebel Ali racecourse up to Muscat Street at a length of 13 km for the two parallel roads from the west and the east.
The project consists also the modification and improvement of the parallel highways between Sheikh Zayed road and Al Khail Street.
He added that the east and west parallel roads which pass through Al Barsha residential area and Al Qouze industrial & commercial area composed of at least three lanes in each direction with major intersections roads and highways. The project also contains two intersection bridges and 17 signalized intersections, in addition to all related services.
Meanwhile, the project of Al Nahda Street intersection with Beirut Street - which has been awarded to the company Yuksel Contractors who submitted the best offer among the three competing companies - includes the improvement works of the northern part of the Dubai International Airport Tunnel, which extends from the intersection of AL Quds Street with Beirut Street up to the intersection which is linking Al Nahda Street with Beirut Highway, as Al Tayer described.
This project includes the conversion of the intersection of Al Nahda Street with Beirut Street from the existing signalized intersection to a graded intersection by constructing an elevated bridge on the Al Nahdah Street in addition to the construction of a tunnel in Beirut street in order to improve the traffic flow on the two streets and facilitate the movement of vehicles at Beirut Street from and to the airport tunnel.
