The Dubai Shopping Festival's endeavour to create world records is just another one among the numerous initiatives aimed at involving communities and bringing people together to celebrate the spirit of Dubai's multi-cultural society.
Yousuf Mubarak, Events, Operations, and Services Director for DSF said, "The DSF World Records Venture is not only about breaking records but also about involving different segments of the society in line with DSF's global theme of 'One World. One Family. One Festival'. It has always been DSF's intention to organize and help conduct innovative events during the shopping festival; with the help of different contributors and willing participants, DSF World Records Venture is today a renowned event that attracts international media attention."
The three-day effort aims at including the community and elevating the event to a globally renowned annual happening. Organised by DSF and first held in 1998, the world records venture is in its eight year and will attempt to break three human and three material records. Beginning on Tuesday, January 30, the DSF World Records Venture will attempt to break the following records over a period of three days.
Tuesday, January 30
Twelve thousand school children will contribute to creating the 'Longest Line of Footprints' forming a long line that will be displayed at Safa Park. The current record stands at 11,710 footprints measuring 3,490.54 metres. The attempt involves footprints on A4 sized white sheets with the names of the participants.
The second attempt on the day will be a display of the 'Largest Inflated Bottle Shaped Balloon' where a balloon in the shape of the energy drink, Vitaene C, will create a new world record. The balloon, manufactured by NTDE, will be 25 metres tall, 11.9 metres wide and made of advanced flame retarded vinyl coated nylon.
Another interesting shot at a world record will be the 'Biggest Mattress in the World'. On the last day of the DSF World Records Venture 2007, 4,500 participants armed with pillows will battle it out for at least one minute to create a new pillow fight record. The pillow fight is being organised in association with Foresight, a non-profit organization that raises funds to help people with the heritable eye disorder, Retinitis Pigmentosa.
The last record to be attempted on the day will be the display of the 'Largest Wallet', made of genuine cow grain leather with a lining of goat leather. With one currency note pocket, one coin pocket, and three card slots, the wallet will be 240 centimetres long and 11 metres wide. The wallet is being manufactured by Paris Gallery.
