2007 Dubai Terry Fox run at Mamzar Park

And organisers hope that the new venue will result in a record attendance - and record fundraising.

"We are really excited about this year's event," said Chairman of the organising committee, Ara Sahakian. "Mamzar Park provides a safe and spectacular backdrop for everyone taking part, and we hope to see a bigger contingent of participants from Sharjah as well as our usual huge turnout form Dubai."

The 2007 Dubai Terry Fox Run has been given 'Official Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) Event' status and Saeed Al Nabouda - CEO of DSF will be flagging off the thousands of participants who are expected.

"Mamzar is capable of comfortably accommodating the many thousands we expect to turn out to walk or run the 4.6 or 8.4 km distance, especially wheelchairs, strollers, bicycles and rollerblades. The weather is great and this is truly one of Dubai's family occasions so we are looking forward to welcoming everyone. As well as the run, there is lots of other entertainment to make this a fun morning out - all for a very good cause," adds Sahakian

Last year's event attracted some 10,ooo participants, and resulted in excess of AED 500,000 being raised, making it by far the biggest charity event staged in Dubai and one of the top Terry Fox Runs globally.
