The team headed by Saleh Al Mahmoudi, Director of the department, presented to Sheikh Saud the data and results of the 'Geological and Geophysical Studies of the Mountainous and Surrounding Desert Areas of UAE', carried out by the Ministry of Energy.

Sheikh Saud welcomed the delegation and lauded the efforts of the Ministry for conducting extensive studies that would contribute towards better understanding of UAE's geological structure and effective utilization of the country's natural resources.

The detailed geological study of the mountainous and surrounding desert areas of UAE has been carried out over a period of four years.

The study included detailed geological investigation supported by air- borne magnetic surveys and deep seismic surveys which penetrated up to 50 km beneath the surface. The results of the study were presented in the form of maps and magnetic and seismic reports.

Abdulla Gahnoog, Advisor at the Petroleum and Mineral Resources Sector, Ministry of Energy, said that the study turned out to be the most extensive one done in the mountainous and surrounding desert areas of UAE.

"The results of the study would enable us to understand the geological structure and would help to find petroleum and mineral accumulation in the areas. It can also be used for conducting hydrological investigations and for other engineering and installation purposes," he added.

Khalid Ali Al Hosani, Deputy Director of Geology and Mineral Resources Department, was also present at the meeting.
