  • PRESS RELEASE

LG Electronics is planning to bring 17 new monitor products to the Middle East and Africa next year including a ground-breaking touch screen LCD prototype and the company's first Windows-based terminal.

The move follows a recent upgrade of LG's monitor range, which in July saw the global and digital leader introduce 12 new monitor products into the regional market.

"We are determined to cement our market-leading standing in the regional monitor sector," said Michael Kim, I.T. Products Manager, LG Electronics Gulf FZE.

"The extensive 2003 upgrade will make the LG monitor range the most comprehensive available on the market."

Due to be launched into the region next year is the Flaterm FT-1000 - LG's new Windows-based terminal (WBT). This combines LG's award-winning LCD Flatron technology with the functionality of Microsoft's Windows applications. The screen is designed to work as a network 'client' where a server holds application software. The screen is packaged with keyboard and mouse and in-built Internet protocol and network settings.

One server can support from 2 to 200 WBTs, with all users being able to access the Internet simultaneously. The screen can dramatically improve the performance of MS Windows applications and fully supports USB peripheral local printers.

Also due in the region next year is the ground-breaking L1510R touch screen LCD prototype. This model is designed for constrained-space areas including banks, shopping malls and other places where interactive display screens are required.

"Part of our strategy in maintaining our market leadership in the monitor segment is to constantly introduce new technology and the 2003 upgrade, which cuts across all monitor ranges, is in line with this," said Kim.

Other models due into the region include the Flatron F700PD, the all-new Flatron F700P-3D monitor, the F700PH, the F900BH, the L1710S, the L1800PK, L1800PM and L1810M, the L1810T, the Flatron L2010P, the L2300A and L3000A.

The Flatron F700PD features advanced specifications aimed at the professional user seeking genuine high performance and reliability at a reasonable price. The truly flat design and W-ARAS coating reduces image distortion and eye fatigue. It is ideal for CAD/CAM, graphic design, image-editing, digital photography, medical imaging, web designing and more.

Unlike other CRT monitors, the Flatron F700D provides dual input capability. Digital input is via the digital video interface (DVI) connector and analogue input is provided by the 15-pin D-sub connection, enabling the monitor to be connected to the latest graphic cards.

"All standard CRT monitors suffer loss of signal as digital output from the PC is converted to analogue for CRT display," explained Kim. "The Flatron F700PD minimises the loss of signal by directly receiving the digital signal from the PC by DVI."

The all-new Flatron F700P-3D monitor brings a totally new perspective to the LG range. The 17-inch screen is ideal for Internet cafes, graphic designers, animation artists and CAD/CAM users to name a few. The screen combines LG's cutting-edge Flatron screen technology with a 3D board allowing the user to see virtual 3D images with interlaced stereo and unique page flipping mode.

The F700PH is a truly flat 17 inch CDT screen with a high-bright tube and window selection function. The F900 BH is a larger 19-inch version with partial high bright software and window selection function.

At 17 inches, the L1710B is the latest size in entry-level LCD screens from LG. "With dual input and USB functionality it should appeal to the budget-conscious user who needs a large monitor without all the added functions," said Kim.

The slim L1710S is the latest 17 inch TFT-LCD monitor from LG. It has SXGA resolution, built-in USB and a wall-mountable stand.

The planned upgrade also includes additions to LG's family of 18-inch LCD screens, the L1800PK, L1800PM and L1810M, which completes the picture for LG's ultra-narrow slim bezel range. The L1800PM has advantage of advanced multi-media detachable speakers, whereas the L1810M features integrated speakers.

The L1810T comes in a super-slim bezel design packaged with in-built TV tuner and speakers. "This new model should appeal to the small office, home office segment where its dual use and wall mountable stand make it a versatile tool," said Kim.

The Flatron L2010P combines LG's flat screen LCD technology with a host of ergonomic characteristics, making it one of the most appealing monitors in its class. The 20.1 inch slim bezel design with pivot features, supports both analogue and digital inputs and comes with LG's VESA design of wall mounting making it ideal for banks and trading floors.

For desktop use, LG has incorporated a height adjustable stand with 'power brick,' which neatly stores all the clutter associated with cables and connections behind the screen. The wide viewing angles created by LG's leading-edge LCD technology are enhanced by the screen's OSD lock, which prevents optimised image settings being adjusted accidently.

The L2300A and L3000A are the largest in the LCD range at 23 and 30 inches respectively. The screens are designed for use as information or display boards and will particularly suit government installations. "Both these models are set to challenge the domination of PDP screens as airport terminal information boards," said Kim.

LG Electronics hopes to end this year with 39.3% of the Middle East and Africa monitor market.

"We are on target to reach our aim and are looking in 2003 to boost our market share even further," said Kim.
