The meeting, which was headed by Mr Obaid Al Tayer, President of DCCI, underlies the Chamber's new initiative aimed at revising its working strategy.

Before a large audience comprising representatives of Dubai-based land transport companies, Mr Al Tayer stressed the necessity of organising and holding meetings that provide members with a suitable discussion platform.

He said: "DCCI is always looking to find new and effective ways of enhancing existing levels of communication with its members. We believe that such meetings will enhance interaction and create a positive environment that will enable us to serve local business community better."

In a brief presentation by Mr Ahmed Al Banna, Assistant Director General for Studies and International Affairs, DCCI, the Chamber highlighted the main issues facing the land transport sector.

Mr Al Tayer added: "Our statistics show that the number of members in this business group has increased from 497 in 1997 to 756 in 2001, and we are confident that this trend will continue over the next few years."

Those attending yesterday's meeting agreed to form a special committee to represent members and articulate their views. Applications to stand on the committee are to be submitted shortly.

New Business Groups are also scheduled for printing and publishing; food and beverages manufacturing; building materials trading and manufacturing; pharmaceuticals, healthcare and hospital equipments; and for organisers of exhibitions and conferences.
