- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, February 01 - 2007 at 11:57
- PRESS RELEASE
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the details of the interior designs of the train compartments of Dubai Metro as the first phase of the manufacturing process will begin in February 2007 in Japan and the first train will be delivered by March 2008.
Abu Al Hassan said that each train consists of five compartments, which can accommodate about 897 passengers in peak hours, divided into three classes, the golden class, ladies and children class and the silver class. The color schemes of the train have been developed based on water and air schemes. The interior environment for all compartments is colored in water and blue, while the exterior of the train is blue and silver. The total length of each compartment is about 18 meters, four meters high and three meters width.
The Director of Planning and Design Department said that the golden class passengers would enjoy a luxurious interior where compartments equipped with leather seats, and panoramic vistas across the front window and the Blue-Aqua colored compartments can seat 18 passengers only.
As for the ladies and children compartments, this section is reserved to be used exclusively by women and children. This car features a distinctive 'pixel' pattern echoing the design of the exterior of the car and utilizes a fresh turquoise color palette that runs through the floor, wall and ceiling of the car. There is a plenty of space for strollers and bags to ensure a safe and comfortable journey for women and children traveling on the Dubai Metro.
The Silver Car is the largest compartment on the train (occupying four cars); the interior has been finished in a combination of blues and greens, again echoing the 'pixel' pattern of the train exterior.
Seating is arranged in a variety of ways giving passengers the choice between admiring views from the windows or discussions with friends. Numerous hand holds provide a secure grip for standing passengers.
Abu Al Hassan continued that, in line with the vision of the RTA to provide safe and smooth transport for all, and stemming from its strategy to provide high quality services for the public, in all compartments, there are reserved wheelchair spaces for wheel Chair users and priority seating for the eldery, injured people, special need people and pregnant women.
Engineer Abu Al Hassan, said that the train compartments will be equipped with audiovisuals. Visual and audio announcements are available in all compartments to serve different people categories especially those with special needs. Clear signage will show the route map of the metro and other directions for passengers. A variety of safety devices, including CCTV in all cars, will ensure safe and comfortable journey for all.
It is noteworthy that the Dubai Metro project consists of two main lines red and green, the total length is about 74 kilometers and is considered one of the longest driverless railway systems in the world to be built in one phase. It will serve about 47 stations, including 10 under the ground.
