'Motorola has been the leading GSM network provider for Qtel for more than 12 years, and particularly after the successful deployment of our indoor telecommunications network last year, Motorola was the logical choice to assist us in providing the highest standards of mobile services during the busy period of the Asian Games,'
said Sheikh Fahad Bin Jassim Al Thani, executive director of Qtel's wireless services.
'We expected significant peaks in demand at various points during the Games, and yet our network performance for the duration was excellent. Motorola proved they had the technical expertise to tailor their managed services to meet the demands of the event, and in doing so made an effective contribution to the overall success of the Games,' he added.
This announcement follows Motorola's successful deployment of an indoor telecommunications network for Qtel in 2005 for a number of stadium venues in Doha, including Khalifa Sports City and other venues.
'We worked with Qtel to ensure a smooth and consistently high quality communications for the 2006 Asian Games. Through our longstanding relationship with the operator and the proven expertise of our services teams, we were able to understand the requirements and challenges of managing communications for such a major event. We offered the operator the expertise of our services teams to ensure that Qtel's customers have optimal communications access at all times,' said Ali Amer, vice president, Middle East, Africa and Pakistan, Motorola Networks & Enterprise.
