Mattar Al Tayer receives Saudi delegation

HE Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) received a Saudi delegation included HE Eng Ibrahim El Sultan, Vice President of Projects and Planning Center in the Higher Commission for the development of Al Riyadh, Tariq Al Faris and Ahmed Mohamed Al Sabeel, Director of Urban and Strategic Planning, Dr. Jalal Nafakh, Director of Transport Unit and Abdul Rahman Al Shaalan, Deputy Director of Transport Unit and Engineer Turki Al Meshari Al Saud.

Al Tayer presented a brief overview of the RTA, which was established by a decree issued from the Dubai Ruler in November 2005 and said that the authority faced a number of challenges since its establishment in finding quick solutions to improve the traffic situation and the preparation of long-term strategic plan and continuity in the implementation of existing projects.

He added that the authority was keen to learn from the experiences of developed countries in the transportation field specifically Germany and Singapore to achieve a number of administrative principles such as the reduction of decision maker levels, easy performance measurement and the integration between functional units.

He explained that the structure comprises four technical agencies Traffic and Roads Agency, Rail Agency, Marine Agency, Public Transport Agency in addition to two specialized Agencies are Corporate Support and Strategy and Corporate Governance.

He talked about the RTA's Strategic Plan for traffic and transport in Dubai.

Al Tayer said that the plan includes development of metro system and altram according to the best modern global standards, development of a mass transport system by bus and marine, expansion in the use of modern techniques to achieve the best possible use of road networks and transport systems, such as the dynamic navigation system (Dalili) and intelligent Traffic System (ITS), in addition to implementation of different transport policies and planning to be able to bring a positive change in the behavior of users road network and transportation systems, adopt a comprehensive program of awareness and education on the development of awareness methodologies and techniques to reach to all groups in the society.

The Saudi delegation praised the pioneering developmental experience witnessed in Dubai in various fields and said that Dubai had made great strides in the field of development and had become a model and destination of many officials who wish to take advantage of their experience in executing giant projects, and employ modern techniques and technologies in all areas.

The delegation invited His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer to visit Saudi Arabia to see Al Riyadh experiment in the transport field.
