Acer and Mantrac to support Egypt's 'PC in every home' initiative

Acer Computer Middle East and Mantrac have announced today that they will look to supply the lion's share of PCs earmarked for millions of homes across Egypt as part of its home computing initiative.

The plan will see desktop requirements met by 10 government approved partners - seven Egyptian and three international vendors - with notebooks seeing a three-to-two split in favour of the international brands.

"We are exceptionally pleased to note that after the rigorous assessment set to all the tenders, Acer has received the highest rating from the Egyptian Government within both the notebook and desktop categories and we hope that this leads us to become the largest international contributor to help realising this amazing initiative,"

said Shashank Sharma - Acer Country Manager, for Egypt, KSA and East Africa.

Designed so that PCs can be made affordable to most, if not all, sectors of the Egyptian population, the full details of the initiative are set to be announced and clarified at the ICT conference on 4-7 February in Cairo.

"With Egypt being the most populous market in the region, we are pleased to announce Acer's commitment to the country's IT growth and to be part of what we believe will prove to be a significant, socially beneficial initiative for the population of the country," said Shashank Sharma, Acer Country Manager - Egypt, KSA and East Africa.
