In addressing the exponential advances in Telecommunication Technology and its role in building the digital society and create digital life style, Huawei Technologies will be highlighting recommended strategies for operators on how to lead the ongoing industry transformation and face rising challenges.
'Telecommunication surpasses its previous definition of a convenient communication tool and instead has become instrumental in reshaping our lives. The theme of Cairo ICT this year is 'the shape of things to come' which illustrates that telecommunications not only lay the foundation for a given society, but also spearhead the future development,' said Tian Feng, president, Huawei Technologies, Middle East & North Africa.
Empowered by a real need to communicate more efficiently, due to factors like shortage of energy resources and aging populations (among others), the ICT industry transformation is playing a key role in defining and building the digital society, which offers huge potential that encourage players in various industries to compete for new opportunities, creating severe competitive environment.
In the new era, terminals are evolving from simple voice and SMS handsets, to multi-functional, multi-mode devices. The value of terminals as well as service and content providers is rising in the resulting industry value chain. Consequently, many terminals and equipment suppliers are joining forces with contents and service providers to provide end to end solutions to their customer.
According to Huawei, there are four characteristics will lay the foundation for tomorrow's networks: convergence, broadband, intelligence and ubiquity. The target network should allow any user device to have seamless on the move broadband access to a variety of applications anytime, anywhere and in anyway.
'In a competitively open environment, cooperation among all participants of the value chain will be mandatory. Network and strategy transformation will be the ultimate weapon for operators to secure leadership in the value chain. Hence, operators should increase investment, keep forging their own brands, and work to ensure the brand consistency of multiple services provided by subsidiaries,' added Feng.
Huawei has achieved balanced development of products, solutions, and key technologies, and built up product portfolios including mobile network, broadband network, IP-based, optical network, telecom value-added service, and terminal. Huawei has mastered the key mobile and IP-based technologies which support the development of future network, and key hardware and software technologies for the deployment of the future network.
