Shanghai Tang is the only Chinese luxury brand: the apogee of the Chinese art of living and Chinese creativity. In its first year in 1994, Shanghai Tang's Hong Kong boutique attracted over one million visitors. By the year 2000, store visits had exceeded four million. At its inception, Shanghai Tang offered an Imperial Tailoring Service. Staffed by Shanghainese tailors, the store offered a made-to-measure clothing service in the best tradition of old-fashioned Shanghainese tailoring, with painstaking attention to detail, craftsmanship, luxurious fabrics and fit. One year later, Shanghai Tang began expanding its offer to include a full range of clothing for men, women and children, plus home furnishings, accessories and gifts.

Shanghai Tang's products are renowned for combining traditional Chinese design and motifs with tongue-in-cheek humour and a contemporary sensibility. Shanghai Tang's design mission is to revitalize Chinese design by interweaving it with the dynamism of the 21st century. The result is a vibrant and witty fusion of "East meets West."

Shanghai Tang's global network of boutiques includes, Shanghai, New York, Paris, London, Hong Kong and Singapore, and now Dubai.

The official launch event was presided over by Mr. Mohi-Din BinHendi, President of Bin Hendi Enterprises and Mr. Raphael le Masne de Chermont, Executive Chairman of Shanghai Tang. It was attended by local Dubai fashionistas and socialites who not only experienced a stylish, elegant fashion show but were also entertained by Asian singing superstar signed to Universal Music, Isabelle Wang, who flew to Dubai especially for the event from Shanghai.

Speaking at the official store opening, Mr. Mohi-Din BinHendi, President of BinHendi Enterprises, said:
"This is a significant day for us as we introduce yet another prestigious, unique brand to the BinHendi portfolio; Shanghai Tang is certainly a natural and welcome addition to the range of brands we offer. The opening of this store is a strong indication of our commitment to offering local consumers access to some of the world's leading fashion and lifestyle brands and subsequently being able to enjoy the best retail experience in the region. Shanghai Tang is a brand with a rich heritage and unique philosophy and we expect it to be a favourite amongst discerning Dubai consumers."

Mr. Raphael le Masne de Chermont, Executive Chairman of Shanghai Tang, added: "We are delighted to extend our product offering to the Middle East, particularly in Dubai which is the undisputed fashion hub of the region.
We have chosen to partner with BinHendi Enterprises because they are well-established in introducing prominent international brands to Dubai."

The Dubai store covers an area of 160 sq meters and is fitted out in elegant black lacquer finishing with silk fabric fabricated panels in colours designed to demonstrate the vibrancy and stylish qualities of the brand.

About Shanghai Tang
Shanghai Tang was founded in 1994 by Hong Kong businessman, David Tang Wing-Cheung. The name, "Shanghai Tang", evokes the elegance and charm of fashionable Shanghai in the 1930's. Shanghai Tang offers an expanding range of home furnishings, accessories, novelty gift items, and a collection of men's, ladies' and children's apparel - all of which enhance the concept of revitalized Chinese arts. Unique to Shanghai Tang is Imperial Tailors, which revives the diminishing art of "Chinese haute couture" - delicately crafted apparel redelivered by a team of traditional Shanghainese tailors. Lush cut velvets; silk jacquards, chiffon, organza, delicate linens, and printed cottons provide an exciting collection of brilliant colours and textures from which a full range of exclusive designs may be chosen.

Shanghai Tang's flagship store occupies 12,000 square feet of the historic Pedder Building in Central, Hong Kong. Two full floors exude vibrant charm as traditional Chinese decor is juxtaposed against modern Chinese motifs and contemporary Chinese art. It is this very fusion that personifies Shanghai Tang's unique style throughout the world. In September 1999, Shanghai Tang opened two new shops in Hong Kong.
Shanghai Tang ahs stores in Hong Kong, New York, London, Singapore, Shanghai, Bangkok, Paris, Honolulu, Tokyo, Beijing and Zurich.
