Qtel may bid for Indian mobile

Qatar Telecom and India's Hinduja Group may jointly bid as much as $16bn for a 67% stake in Indian mobile operator Hutchinson Essar, according to a report in the Economic Times cited by AFP. The stake is owned Hong Kong-based Hutchison Whampoa. Other bidders include the UK's Vodafone and the local Reliance Communications. Hutchinson Essar is India's fourth largest mobile operator.
