Call to abolish DRM

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has called on the music industry to abolish DRM, or digital rights management, which puts restrictions on legally downloaded multimedia content. In an open letter on Apple's website, Jobs says that DRM has failed to prevent piracy. DRM aims to stop users copying files. But cracks are usually published online soon after any new DRM is introduced, allowing people to circumvent the restrictions.
