American output to decline

A reduction in oil production in North and South America will hit the US' attempts to rely less on Middle Eastern imports this year according to experts and cited by Reuters. Fimat analyst Antoine Halff said oil output in North and South America will drop by 200,000 barrels per day in 2007, reversing a 90,000 bpd upswing in 2006. A combination of declining oil fields and outages will cause the slump.
