During the inauguration of Cairo ICT 2007, Kamel stated that this technology event has witnessed a noticeable progress thanking the organizers for the efforts exerted to put Cairo ICT on the international ICTs exhibitions map.
The restructuring of the sector has managed to attract new investments since 1999 along with the new legislative and regulatory framework tailored by the Ministry, reflecting the rate of the sector's development within an atmosphere of transparency.
According to Kamel, the Cabinet owes it to the Ministry and the ICT sector for pumping L.E 20 Billion into the Egyptian economy, hinting that the Ministry is offering a new range of Broadband services that spurred Broadband users in Egypt to reach 250 users. Talking about the 3G mobile phones, his Excellency expected that this new generation shall double the added value of mobile phone services; for the future transpires as a merge between communications and Media.
The Ministry of Information and Communications Technology has been cooperating intensively with government key players in order to furnish the market with new initiatives liable to lay down a deep and well rooted digital society. At the top of these initiatives is the Egyptian Education initiative, providing preparatory schools with internet access, in addition to other initiatives in the health and e-government fields. Dr. Tarek Kamel added that the decision taken towards pitching the Chinese and Indian markets is expected to be of multiple benefits for the information technology sector.
On another level, Dr. Youssef Boutrous Ghali, the Minister of Finance, stated that the development of the ICT sector has returned back on the State's national balance pointing to the availability of knowledge and the wider access to the information world.
