- PRESS RELEASE
Tech Connections, a unique display of technology integration within the classroom, conceived and designed largely by students at the GEMS Dubai American Academy (DAA), will be held for the third year in a row, on February 19, 2007.
An initiative that was created originally by the Student Tech Crew of DAA, Tech Connections has grown to become a major ICT fair in Dubai. Students at DAA have put together a bigger and better show this year, bringing on board their compatriots from four other schools in the GEMS network - Dubai Modern High School, Jumeirah Primary School, Jumeirah College and Wellington International School.
"Information Communication Technology, especially application software, is an indispensable part of today's classrooms. We have put together Tech Connections in such a way that it highlights this strong association. Students visiting Tech Connections will easily identify themselves with the technology on display at this show," said Seth William-Wright, a Year 10 DAA student and member of the Student Tech Crew.
An event for all age groups, exhibits at Tech Connections will have creations and innovations from students in the elementary, middle and high schools, with leading local and international ICT companies extending their support.
The Robotics Corner will display the marvels of the robot world. Students from DAA and Dubai Modern High School will share original designs and offer an in-depth view of how robots interact with each other. Incidentally, these schools participated in the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) held in October, 2006.
Students from the Jumeirah College will demonstrate various DBMS skills and concepts they have developed during the A Level ICT programme of study, while DAA students will demonstrate their own high-tech radio station using i-Tunes to transmit announcements, music, and reports.
"Tech Connections is an initiative that is thought of, organised and lead by our students. As an institution promoting leadership, forward thinking and innovation, GEMS and Dubai American Academy feel proud to invite everyone to see our students take the centre stage and to enjoy a day filled with the wonders of connecting with technology," said Dan Young, Superintendent, Dubai American Academy.
A tech quiz, raffle draw and specialised seminars will also be part of the day's proceedings.
