In 2006, Australia welcomed over 42,000 visitors from the GCC countries, a sizeable increase of more than11 percent over the previous year, confirming Australia is one of the hottest destinations for visitors from the region. 2007 numbers are expected to climb even further.
During the visit the team met with Etihad senior management in Abu Dhabi to discuss the advent of their new flight to Sydney, due to launch in March.
'Australia is gearing up for another bumper year of record visitor numbers from the GCC over the summer months, winter in Australia, of course. With more airlines in the region focusing on the destination, we expect percentages to be up by double digits in 2007 over 2006,' said Andrew Oldfield, Tourism Australia's Dubai- based Distribution Development Manager for the GCC.
