Held under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Haya, the Palestinian Children's Relief Foundation (PCRF), a charitable organization that provides medical care for children in conflict zones across the Arab world, will host a glittering fundraising event this evening at the Emirates Towers hotel, with a performance by world-renowned oud players Le Trio Joubran, a keynote address by Palestinian spokeswoman Hanan Ashrawi, and a charity auction.

The event will support the PCRF's ongoing non-political activities in Palestine, Lebanon and Iraq, which include everything from distribution of milk to medicine for diabetes and women's empowerment programmes.

The Dubai chapter of the PCRF focuses on bringing to the UAE for quality medical treatment. Yousuf is the third patient brought to Dubai by the PCRF in a year. Previously, 5-year old Rawan al Goholan underwent plastic and reconstructive surgery at Welcare Hospital, and 13-year old Yousef Halahli received care from Dr. Marc Sinclair from the Dubai Bone and Joint Centre for his congenital leg deformities.

Nadia Wehbe, PCRF spokeswoman, said:

"This event has the potential to sustain our ongoing activities as well as to further our reach in the future, helping more children who do not have access to medical care. There has been enormous interest in our activities from the generous people of Dubai, and we are greatly appreciative to have HRH Princess Haya's patronage for tonight. Since we are a member organization of the UAE Red Crescent Society, all of our donors can count on a transparent accounting process, and on our commitment to secure the best care possible for the most candidates."

The PCRF was established in 1991 and since then has carried out numerous humanitarian activities; the group's most prominent patron is former US president Jimmy Carter.

PCRF Background:
The Palestine Children's Relief Fund is a registered non-political, non-profit, tax-exempt organization that was established in 1991 by concerned people in the U.S. to address the medical and humanitarian crisis facing Palestinian youth in the Middle East. It has since expanded to help suffering children from other Middle Eastern nations, based only on their medical needs. The P.C.R.F. helps to locate cost-free medical care for children from the Middle East who are unable to get the necessary and specialized treatment in their homeland. Since 1991 over 450 children have been, or currently are being, treated outside of the Middle East through the P.C.R.F.

The P.C.R.F. also helps to improve the quality of medical care in the Middle East by sending medical equipment and supplies to war-torn Lebanon and the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The P.C.R.F. has also trained Palestinian surgeons so they can treat patients there and has sent American medical personnel to the region to treat difficult cases and train medical personnel in country.

The PCRF currently has several injured or sick children in the U.S. being treated for free. We are also working to locate free medical care for many more injured and sick children from Palestine, Lebanon and other parts of the Middle East. We rely on the kindness of many volunteers who act as host families, volunteers and donors, enabling us to continue our humanitarian relief work.

The PCRF has two chapters in the UAE, in Dubai/Sharjah and in Abu Dhabi. Both operate under the auspices of the Red Crescent Society.
