UAE hawala crackdown

The UAE's authorities have launched a crackdown on hawala operators as part of a move to target money laundering, with a number of arrests last week in Dubai and the closure of offices near the gold souq area, reported Gulf News. The UAE Central Bank has issued instructions to banks and money exchangers to freeze the accounts of the main suspects and nine firms allegedly at the centre of the scam.
