Hussain Nasser Lootah, Acting Director of the Municipality said that better use of open spaces and playgrounds in schools to serve the community would develop the concept of school buildings and give it new dimensions.

He said that the new play areas would be used by students during school time and by the community outside school hours, and serve as an alternative to public parks and squares.

Lootah highlighted the new requirements to answer the growing needs for recreational facilities including parks and gardens especially in old residential areas where such facilities are scarce.

A detailed study was conducted in coordination with the concerned bodies at the Ministry of Education to develop the school building concept and use open spaces at schools to provide the needs of residents.

Lootah said that the municipality is currently implementing the first such facility at Al Wuheida Secondary School, where a shaded auditorium will be built along with a football field, basketball and volleyball courts, restrooms and a canteen.
