The 2007 ranking marks the second year in a row that Motorola has earned the fourth spot on the list and the fourth time that Motorola has appeared in the top 10.
The annual ranking is based on the evaluation of more than 1,100 of the largest U.S. publicly traded companies in eight key categories: shareholders, community, governance, diversity, employees, environment, human rights and product.
'This ranking is a testament to Motorola's commitment to the community and to the hard work of our employees who uphold strong standards that benefit both Motorola and our customers. Corporate social responsibility is a key priority at Motorola and this is nowhere more evident than in the Middle East and Africa, where Motorola is known for its social commitment, clearly demonstrated by our charitable initiatives and our ongoing community support,' said Hassan Tavakoli, vice president and director, Motorola Middle East and Africa Region (MEA).
Motorola reinforced its commitment to the betterment of the community recently by hosting a MOTOCARE Global Day of Service around the world. Motorola employees across the Middle East and Africa region joined the initiative by rolling up their sleeves and devoting four hours of service to the communities where they live and work.
Motorola employees supported a charitable project in cooperation with Riding for the Disabled Association of Dubai (RDAD), a locally based non-profit organization, which provides disabled children with an incredible service, offering them the chance to ride, feed and ultimately interact with horses.
With the fundamental aim of raising money for this organization whilst simultaneously assisting in a nationwide eco-drive, Motorola staff dispersed in shopping malls and business centers throughout the UAE, collecting used print cartridges and defunct mobile telephones from members of the public. These were recycled and 'converted' into cash by a recycling agency whereby earning an average of AED.42 per handset before they were recycled in an environmentally friendly way.
The monies raised from the MOTOCARE day will go a long way to providing funds for the construction of an air-conditioned indoor riding centre specially designed for people with disabilities, allowing for RDAD to continue a year-round operation.
'Initiatives like this give us the opportunity to directly impact our local community and to continuously fulfill our social commitment by supporting charities across the region,' added Tavakoli.
Motorola was also named one of Fortune magazine's Most Admired companies in 2006 and has received numerous awards for its employment, environment and supplier diversity initiatives.
