Shell's sponsorship for the second year running of one of the oil and gas industry's best global networking events is part of the company's initiative to demonstrate a strong global presence and communicate a positive message to all sectors of the society.

"GetEnergy 2007 is an ideal platform to share with our industry partners the benefits of adopting specialized programmes that improve learning and develop human capital. Shell has aggressively promoted learning and workforce development activities to address various challenges, and we would like others to be able to appreciate the positive results of such initiatives through the model programmes that we will be presenting at the event. Key Shell staff members will be at hand to entertain queries and facilitate the exchange of ideas,"

said Adam Lomas, Vice President, Learning and Development, Shell International Exploration and Production.

Shell will participate in all parts of GetEnergy 2007, including the Learning Arena exhibition, which will gather more than 70 of the world's leading academic institutions along with their oil company partners. The highly interactive Learning Arena exhibition will feature live interview sessions with Lomas and Andrew Vaughan, Technical Director of Shell's Exploration and Production. The two Shell officials will offer an in-depth discussion of Shell's workplace learning program.

Workplace learning is an initiative to transfer and share expertise between local and expatriate employees. It aims to cultivate knowledge through the ASL concept, which stands for ask (encouraging questions from the employees), learn (through libraries, networks and groups) and share (encouraging employees to share their knowledge by uploading it on the company's website).

Shell has operations in more than 145 countries, including Oman, where its joint venture Petroleum Development Oman extensively implements the workplace learning program. Shell companies worldwide have businesses in oil and gas exploration and production; production and marketing of liquefied natural gas and gas to liquids; manufacturing, marketing and shipping of oil products and chemicals and renewable energy projects including wind and solar power.

GetEnergy brings together national, international and independent oil companies, service providers, government agencies, universities, colleges, institutes and private training providers to discuss global issues in workforce development of the upstream industry. The event features interactive exchanges, case study groups, Master classes and oil company interviews examining various topics such as local content, fast tracking local talent, effective recruitment retention, industry-university partnership, graduate recruitment, leadership development, knowledge transfer, company-wide competence, coaching and mentoring and on-the-job training.
