Visiting the UAE to launch environment-friendly carpets, Christopher Champlin, Sales and Marketing Manager, Europe and Middle East, BEAULIEU of AMERICA said: "Beaulieu carpets are based on eco - friendly and responsible design and are manufactured from 85 per cent recycled material after recognising the need for a healthier environment."

At the 10th National Environment Day held earlier this month, Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of Environment Agency emphasised conservation and protection of the environment as part of its comprehensive development policy, along with the development of natural resources and the use of renewable energy.

"Sustainability is the key to survival of the planet, but environment friendly designed products have been slow to gain a foothold in this region," said Ajai Dayal, General Manager, Retail and Marketing, Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group.

"Together with BEAULIEU of AMERICA, we feel proud to advance the concept of sustainability in the UAE, to match the trend towards environment friendly living in Europe, US and elsewhere," he added.

Beaulieu converts PET (polyethylene terepthelate) bottles into nexterra - a revolutionary carpet tile backing that is 85 per cent post consumer recycled content.

"In terms of the impact on global resources, the annual production of our carpets worldwide on average uses around 40 million pounds of recycled PET bottles - that's approximately 720 million 16-ounce bottles,' Champlin added.

With an annual turnover of AED 4.4 billion (US$ 1.2 billion) from the Americas and Europe, BEAULIEU of AMERICA is now expanding its horizons in the UAE.

Available in 'Aqua' and 'Cambridge' ranges, these carpets are stronger than other conventional products, are 40 per cent lighter and can be easily installed. Internationally, Beaulieu are preferred suppliers to General Electronics, Marriott, Holiday Inn, and many others.

As an added feature, nexterra carpet tiles are treated with Puralex - a durable carpet treatment that is environment friendly and specially formulated to reduce odours and purify the air.

OFIS has been in the office flooring and furnishing business for almost two decades. Ajai Dayal, General Manager, Retail and Marketing, Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group said the sustainability concept as a whole is here to stay. It is just a matter of time before we catch up and move in line with global trends.
